All confirmation candidates are required to attend a Retreat.
The Student is also required to have 12 service hours completed before confirmation. Information on what counts, how to record and such will be given at the confirmation classes.
Each candidate must have a sponsor. Information on being a sponsor is above on a separate page.
The candidate must also choose a confirmation name. This name is traditionally taken from a saint that the candidate has a relationship with.
In order insure all students have been given ample teaching and preparation for this Sacrament, if the student misses more than 3 large group meetings, and/or 5 classes the student may be asked to wait to be confirmed the next year. An exception to this standard is only granted if the student does make-up work under the director or talks directly with the Pastor.
The Sacrament of Confirmation is a very important sacrament in one’s life. You are given the opportunity to decide for yourself if you really believe in your catholic faith. St. Mary’s Cathedral and the Bishop understand the importance of this Sacrament. Because of this, we at St. Mary’s have confirmation preparation for anyone that wishes to receive the sacrament. This preparation is to insure you are ready to receive this sacrament and for you to understand what you are saying ‘yes’ to, ask questions, and to grow in your relationship with Jesus.
Anyone in 9th grade or higher but not an adult yet, is eligible to join this preparation program.
The Confirmation Program Resource we are using is 'Chosen' by Ascension Press. For more information on the program click on the logo below.
All teaching classes will be in the Youth Room. The youth room is located in the rectory basement, enter the green door next to the garage doors, facing the parish hall. Large group meetings will usually be in the youth room, but may be at other locations as well.
Preparation starts in the fall and ends in the spring with the confirmation rite and mass. Teaching classes are almost weekly, except for one week off a month. We also have a Large Group Activity which will be a combined group of confirmation students and other high school students. The large group activity may not always be on the same day of the week as classes, depending on the activity. Please refer to the calendar which is on a separate page, on the right panel above under confirmation, or click: /confirmation-2016-2017-calendar
The fee for the program is $80, which covers the cost of materials, student workbooks, parent and sponsor resources, and the confirmation retreat. If finances are a problem please speak with us about options.
To sign-up for confirmation preparation please fill out form below and we will contact you. Or come to our first meeting in the fall.
