St. Mary Cathedral is happy to offer two parish programs to assist you in helping your children grow in love and knowledge of Jesus!
Children in 1st through 8th grade
Religious Education classes are open to children in grades 1-8 (approx. age 6-13) who have been baptized in the Catholic church. We meet Sunday mornings to learn about the Gospel and the truths of the Catholic faith. Our goal is to form disciples of Christ and have each child draw closer to our Lord.
If you have a child who has not been baptized or was baptized in a non-Catholic Christian community, please contact me to learn about faith formation options for your child.
We prepare children for First Confession and First Communion during religious education classes. These sacraments are typically received by children in grade 2 (age 7 or 8). Older elementary age children, who have not yet received these sacraments, can often join with this group.
If you are preparing your children for the sacraments at home, I am happy to reccomend resources and have your child join in our First Communion mass and celebration in the spring. Please let me know if you have an older child who still needs to receive these sacraments or if you are preparing children for the sacraments at home.

Children 3 to 6 years old
St. Mary Cathedral offers Catechesis of the Good Shepherd . This is hands on learning using the Montessori method of education to let children have the freedom to contemplate and do the works they wish to do in the classroom. This method relies upon repitition and allowing the Holy Spirit to be the teacher of the children while the catechist is the facilitaor for His work. Classes meet during the week. Please contact Rebecca Kanclerz for more information or visit the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd page to enroll.
