Within the boundaries of your St. Mary Cathedral parish is a large population of souls that, from time to time, need help to maintain their daily lives. Calls are received every day at the office from people who request assistance for a variety of needs. Examples of the requests are: help with rent, utilities, furniture, food, clothing and an array of other needs. The Cathedral parish St. Vincent DePaul (SVDP) group makes home visits to those who need assistance, assesses the person’s needs, makes referrals to community resources, if available, and provides financial help when deemed appropriate. The visits, the counsel and resources provided are done in a manner that offers assistance while maintaining the dignity of the person visited. You can help SVDP with this service. By using the yellow St. Vincent DePaul Society envelope, that is in your monthly packet of envelopes, you provide resources to continue this work. You can also help by joining the St. Vincent DePaul group. They meet every other Wednesday at 1pm on the second floor of the parish center. If you are interested or have questions, please leave your name and phone number at the rectory office, 484-5331.
